KEANE CAN LINK UP

LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena has decided to allow Robbie Keane to link up with the Republic of Ireland squad for the friendly match against England. Arena was previously against the idea of allowing him to join with the international squad due to the hectic schedule for his club. Keane is also one of the important players within the LA Galaxy squad due to the poor form of striker Landon Donovan. Keane is one of the celebrated players at the international level for the Republic of Ireland. He has represented several top clubs like Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Celtic during his illustrious career.

Arena has said that the decision to allow Keane to join up with the Ireland squad has been taken with the state of other internationals in the squad in mind. Arena has said that the US internationals have been allowed to join up with their international squad. Hence, he does not see the reason why Keane should be denied this opportunity. As a result of this international date with England, Arena will be without the services of Keane for the crucial match against New England Revolution. LA Galaxy have had an indifferent start to the season and there are currently seven points behind the leaders.

“In all fairness it’s the right thing to do. In reflecting over it, if we’re required to release U.S. players, how can we not allow other internationals to go? If our U.S. internationals are going for friendlies then others should. We’re on the same team here. It’s not one rule for one and one for another. We were going to send him to the moon as well but we weren’t able to get a rocket ship in time,” said Arena. LA Galaxy have just two victories in the last five league matches.
