SAPUTO UNSURE

The Montreal Impact chairman, Joey Saputo, has said that it hasn’t been decided yet whether Marco Schallibaum who was the manager of the team during the previous season is going to continue at his post or not.

The 2013 season wasn’t the best of seasons for Montreal Impact. Out of the 34 games that they played in the league during the season, they managed to win just 14. They lost 13 times, while, in 7 games, they shared points. They ended up being at the 5th position in the Eastern Conference Points table with 49 points.

Schallibaum had been appointed as the manager of Montreal Impact in the previous season only and a few people reckon that he deserves to be given one more go before being sacked.

Talking to the reporters in a press conference yesterday, Saputo said, “We don’t want to decide anything in a hurry. We have spoken to Marco. He is a guy who is passionate about his job and he tried his best in the previous season, but, I can’t tell you right now if he will continue or not.  The decision is yet to be taken.”

In the last couple of weeks, there had been rumours that the former Italian international Alessandro Nesta would take over from Schallibaum next season, but, Saputo has completely denied those rumours.

When asked about the reports of Nesta being in contention for replacing Schallibaum, Saputo said, “These are completely false reports. We haven’t even talked to Nesta regarding the post of manager.”

Nesta had played for Montreal Impact during the previous season and at the end of the season, he had decided to hang his boots. During his 1-year tenure at Montreal, he played a total of 31 league games.
