UNI vs THE PROs
The University of Pittsburgh men’s soccer team saw its first competitive action of the spring season with an exhibition contest versus the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Sunday, March 20 at the Petersen Sports Complex.
The Riverhounds, a local professional team competing in the USL PRO Division, posted a 1-0 win off a goal from Jeremy Deighton in the 77th minute. Pitt head coach Joe Luxbacher, beginning his 28th season at the helm of the Panthers this season, was pleased with his team’s performance.
“It was good to get outdoors and play a game, after training indoors for the past few weeks. The team showed some promise on Sunday and played pretty well against a very strong team,” said Luxbacher. “We held our own for most of the match against a team that it well-organized, talented and set for their pro team. We created several good chances, and worked hard.
“Individually we had several strong performances. The most disappointing aspect was that we were in a position to win, or at the least get a draw, and gave up a late goal in transition.”
